Glazing behind the scenes
Just a little video of some critters getting a bit of colour.
To add colour I use “underglazes”. Each underglaze needs 3 layers applying to build up the colour.
They’re then left for at least 24 hours before I brush on a coat of transparent glossy glaze, let it dry, then do it again a couple more times. They need to be dry before each layer is applied. When it’s cold, this process takes a lot longer.
If a critter doesn’t want a glossy finish, I’ll still gloss their eyes to make them shine.
Then once they’re dry, I’ll carve out some of the glaze from around their eyes, wipe any glaze from their bottoms and then pop them in the kiln ready for their glaze firing.
