Lapwing Painting

Lapwings Giclée Fine Art Print

Oh our wonderful “peewit” friends, I don’t even know where to begin with these wonderful birds.

What a treat when they arrive in the spring; swooping and diving in huge numbers, their distinctive voices ringing out over the moors, inviting their friends the Curlews to share their excitement.

These rainbow iridescent birds with the jaunty fascinators are beautiful, but they are also fierce. They defend their nesting sites and youngsters with the agility and ferocity of a jet fighter, even if the intruder is twice their size. I admire them so much.

If you’re lucky enough to see a lapwing chick (and survive their warnings) then you will understand why. Such fluffy, adorable little beings who waste no time in getting on their feet to explore their brave new world.

Using my digital tablet and pen (hey, if it’s good enough for David Hockney it’s good enough for me!) allows me to get closer to the subject before even getting my hands on clay and creating sculptures from my encounters.
