Metallic Pigeon Ceramic Sculpture

Because we forget how much we owe to the ‘humble’ pigeon

If you’ve ever watched Mary Poppins, you may recall an old lady sitting happily on some steps in London surrounded by pigeons as she feeds them. The accompanying song, “feed the birds, tuppence a bag” added to the beautiful and somehow poignant scene.

Well that scene has stuck with me throughout my life. Was it the old lady’s kindness to what others would have considered vermin? Her open heart and open mind touches me deeply still, and I can’t help but get a lump in my throat when I think of the song.

If you’ve ever spent some time watching, and indeed, feeding the pigeons, you’ll understand why I love them just as any other bird. That’s not even mentioning the sheer skills they possess and what they did in service during conflict. Maybe that’s why I wanted to give this pigeon a shiny plumage, he deserves to be noticed and admired, just like all beings do.
