Tawny Owl

The thing about exploring is, you never know quite what you might see. It was a hot summer afternoon and I came across a new public bridleway that I’d not been down before, so off I went.

I came to a wonderful shaded woodland area, with incredibly tall trees by the side of a stream. Something urged me to look up into the tree canopy, and holy moly, you could have knocked me down with a feather! For up above me was a beautiful tawny owl.

Now being new to owls, I assumed that they were nocturnal creatures, but it turns out this isn’t always the case.

She was relaxing in the trees, watching what was going on around her. Little did I know that a couple of weeks later I’d be treated to the sighting of her chick!
