Raku at Cliffe House

A couple of weeks since the Northern Potters Association‘s Ulley sculpture day, we met up at Cliffe House in Huddersfield to play with some raku glazes and firing.

I’d bisque fired the little badger I’d created at the sculpture day and thought it would be nice to use him.

I applied the blue raku glaze, dried him off and then into the kiln he went. 900 degrees and an hour or so later and he’s been popped into a bucket of sawdust, which is then covered and left to reduce. Still hot, he was then taken out and sizzled into a bucket of water to stop the process and seal the colours.
