The age of bronze
Also known as the bronze age. Or in my case, 2023. Let me explain.
This April, I have a solo show and workshop at RSPB Bempton Cliffs to celebrate the return of the puffins for the breeding season. So to that end, I’ve been busy sculpting puffins for the event.
Flippy flappy, a life-size puffin sculpture stole my heart whilst I was working on him. I decided I just couldn’t let him go and started daydreaming about getting him cast in bronze so I could keep one but also pay the billls!
I hadn’t for a moment thought I’d ever venture into bronze so soon after starting sculpting, but what the heck. I looked around and found a suitable foundry over near Liverpool where I duly dropped Flippy Flappy off for moulding and casting.
Martin Mere WWT Flying Visit (Pun Intended)
Turns out that the foundry isn’t far from the WWT Martin Mere nature reserve, so I combined a quick visit with going to check on the wax copy.
Before I’d even reached the reserve I had to pull over because in a field next to the road were thousands of geese and swans. What a wonderful sight to behold! The noise from the flocks above was amazing as they all chatted to each other.
