The Kingfisher sculpture is dead. Long live the Kingfisher sculpture!

I’ve been working on sculpting a kingfisher these past weeks, and decided to take them to the foundry. I had planned on leaving them to begin their transformation, but the guys weren’t kind about them, so I brought them back to the studio to work on.

Well, I worked on the kingfisher until I broke it.

I hated it. It went in the clay recycling bucket.

I don’t mind telling you, I was devastated. Why did I mess with it? I’ve tried recreating sculptures but there always seems to be something lost – I can’t recapture – maybe a part of me goes with each one I make so it can’t ever be the same.

So I left it.

Then I made a new one, long live the kingfisher!
